Foodies and fashionistas will get the chance to sample the finest in local fare at the 9th annual Taste of River/Buy River on Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. at the Don Umerley Civic Center. The event is sponsored by the Rocky River Chamber of Commerce and Giant Eagle.

According to chamber Executive Director Liz Manning, over 20 businesses will be offering samples of their wares, including Simply Deneen Photography, which will host a photo booth, and selling Rocky River-themed merchandise. Home Depot will have a children’s activity and Tomorrows Salon will give free chair massages. Thirty-one Gifts and Timan Custom Window Treatments will also be on hand.

Tasty treats will be offered by Bearden’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Burntwood Tavern, Cravings Cafe, East of Chicago Pizza, Ferris Steak House, Giant Eagle, Guys Pizza, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Jet’s Pizza, L.A. Cafe, Menchie’s, Mitchell’s, Pearl of the Orient, Salmon Dave’s Pacific Grille and The Woods.

Attendees can also sample entries from the Baker & Co. brownie bake-off.

There will also be visits from Browns mascot Chomps (noon to 1 p.m.), the Lake Erie Crushers’ Stomper (1 to 2 p.m.) and the Menchie’s mascot.

“This is a unique opportunity to bring together our area’s restaurants and retailers with the people of the community,” Manning said. “Residents get to try food from restaurants that they may not know about or have never visited. A restaurant’s best advertising is their food. Every year, successful connections are made at this event by both the restaurants and retailers.”

About 600 people attended last year’s event. There is no admission, and tasting tickets are $1 each.
