Hyland Software has taken the first steps to integrate the Five Seasons Family Sports Club into its Clemens Road campus.
Hyland purchased the sports club, which will close May 31, for $11.14 million.
In a May 15 letter to the Westlake Planning Commission, an architect hired by Hyland said the sports club will become Hyland Software Building No. 5. The letter from LS Architects’ Leon S. Sampat accompanied Hyland’s development plan for the sports club property.
According to the letter, Hyland plans to convert two indoor tennis courts to office space, adding a second floor for offices over the former courts. The new second floor will add nearly 55,000 square feet of office space, the letter states. The entire Five Seasons facility consists of 168,000 square feet of space. The remaining sections of the Five Seasons building will be redeveloped according to the needs of the company, the letter stated.
The outdoor pool area and some outdoor tennis courts will be converted to parking space, Sampat’s letter stated. A new loading dock will be constructed at the north end of the building.
Hyland is also seeking to change the zoning classification of the Five Seasons property. Currently rezoned in the recreational business category, Hyland wants to rezone it to the office lab category, according to a May 13 letter to the city from Rick Kirk, Hyland’s director of operations.
“This (zoning change) would create consistency with our other owned property on Clemens Road and better provide opportunities to grow our campus,” Kirk said in the letter.
A December application by Five Seasons to allow office use in areas zoned in the recreation business category spurred rumors that the sports club would close. City Council approved the zoning definition change in February. That change was thought to clear the way for the sale of the sports club to Hyland.
According to Will Krause, the city’s assistant director of planning, Hyland eventually plans to offer day care services at the former Five Seasons site. Day care is not a permitted use in the recreational business category.
Hyland officials did not return calls for comment by press time.
