From simple to gourmet, tacos suit every budget and taste

Tacos are low in carbs, relatively inexpensive to make, easy to eat and pretty good for you. So, it is no surprise that restaurants are using tacos to draw customers in on weeknights when tables might otherwise not be filled. Whether they are simple or gourmet, the tacos at these area eateries are created to suit every budget and taste.

Barrio, 806 Literary Road, Tremont, 216-999-7714: Build your own tacos any day of the week with a combination of fillings. Taco Tuesday offers a special taco of the day, like roasted duck with queso fresco. There is also a featured guacamole of the day. A second Barrio location recently opened at 15527 Madison Ave., Lakewood, 216-226-7714.

Deagan’s, 14810 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, 216-767-5775: This place packs in the crowd for Taco Tuesday from 5 to 10 p.m. It is no wonder, with featured offerings like the paella taco with rabbit, scallops, lobster, mussels and saffron rice. Other tacos include adobo braised beef and roasted chicken with Spanish rice and white cheddar cheese ($2), and spicy shrimp and Baja fish ($3).

Johnny Mango, 3120 Bridge Ave., Cleveland, 216-575-1919: Tacos are $1 from 4 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday. Margaritas are made from fresh ingredients.

Lion on Lorain, 12703 Lorain Rd., Cleveland, 216-252-6483: This motorcycle-friendly establishment features tacos on a daily basis for $3.75. Chef-owner Jason Wagner kicks it up for Taco Thursday, with a variety of vegan tacos, beef “hipster” tacos with fried salami, gyro tacos, rabbit tacos and jerk beef tacos ($2).

Parkview Nite Club, 1261 W. 58th St., Cleveland, 216-961-1341: Chipotle pork tacos with hot salsa, honey chipotle and cheddar cheese are two for $7.

Sachsenheim Hall, 7001 Denison Ave., Cleveland, 216-651-0888: This place is so lacking in atmosphere that it sucks the atmosphere right out of you. But on any Tuesday night, there are 15 to 17 different tacos on the menu, hard or soft shell, for $1 each. Flavors include Jamaican jerk, ancho chicken, Thai garlic shrimp, ratatouille, black bean and corn, fish, chipotle chicken and bacon and Saxon sausage. The sausage-filled fried empanadas ($1.50) are also very tasty. Wash that down with a liter of German beer ($5).

Stamper’s Grill Pub, 21750 Lorain Road, Fairview Park, 440-333-7826: Wednesday is Taco and Trivia Night. Choose chicken or pork tacos for $2 each (normally three for $7.99), or the signature Tam’O Taco ($3). Trivia begins at 8 p.m.

Touch Supper Club, 2710 Lorain Road, Cleveland, 216-631-5200: Tacos are $3 or two for $5 on Taco Thursday. Start with a freshly juiced cucumber melon margarita or a glass of sangria. Some featured taco flavors are beer-braised Carolina pulled pork with blueberry barbecue sauce, Asian-marinated sliced beef with cucumber slaw, or chorizo sausage with peppers and onions and scallion cream sauce.
