One of Cleveland’s most acclaimed restaurants has made its debut at PlayhouseSquare.
Sammy’s at PlayhouseSquare has opened at 1515 Euclid Ave. under the Ohio Theatre marquee. Located in the historic Ohio Theatre lobby, the restaurant’s design by Cleveland architect William Fugo Jr. embraces the lobby’s existing architectural elements with modern accents to create a clean, streamlined look. Highlights include a 34-foot bar with rounded ends for added seating, Italian glass chandeliers, a floor-to-ceiling glass wall looking out from the dining area onto the entrance to the Ohio Theatre and a private dining room seating up to 16 people.
French-trained executive chef Taty Agostina has created a menu that incorporates international influences, as well as local, seasonal and organic items. Appetizers include homemade lobster bisque ($9), ahi tuna with Ohio maple glaze and pickled Daikon radish ($14), pan-seared diver scallops with citrus beurre blanc ($13) and marinated fennel salad with mandarin orange vinaigrette ($9).
Entrees are osso buco with polenta cake and escarole ($26), cedar-planked salmon with horseradish-parsnip puree ($24) and pistachio-crusted rack of lamb ($34). Grilled New York strip steak is served with smoked Gouda potatoes and wild mushroom ragout ($30). Chicken lemonato is accompanied by Ohio City spinach fettuccine and roasted red peppers ($22). Pasta carbonara is prepared with local bacon and sweet peas and topped with an egg ($20). Daily soup and entree specials are offered.
Featured desserts are Sammy’s renowned Marjolaine hazelnut cake ($9) and boule de neige, a flourless chocolate cake ($7). Ice cream and sorbet of the day ($7) are made fresh in-house.
A children’s menu offers chicken tenders with sweet potato pommes frites ($7), white cheddar macaroni and cheese ($7), fish and chips ($8) and pinwheel pasta marinara with mini meatballs ($6).
Happy hour in the bar, Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., features $6 well drinks and an expanded bar menu. Boutique and artisanal wines by the glass or bottle, craft beers and twelve signature classic cocktails developed exclusively for Sammy’s are also available. The bar menu features potato-breaded walleye sliders, ahi tuna and Gulf shrimp, as well as antipasti and cheese plates to share, priced from $6 to $18.
