The fifth annual Taste of Westlake, presented by the Citizens for Westlake Schools, is April 18 at LaCentre Conference & Banquet & Facility.
More than 26 participating restaurants will provide hearty appetizers for guests to sample. “Citizens for Westlake Schools appreciate the generosity of their time, their wonderful food and their ongoing support of the Westlake City Schools,” Christie Wiedt, Taste of Westlake chairperson, noted. “This will be our third time holding the event at LaCentre banquet facility in Westlake. It is a perfect venue to accommodate our guests and restaurant. The staff at LaCentre has been wonderful to work with.” Wiedt said more than 700 guests attended the event in 2010, and this year’s fundraiser is expected to be even more well-attended.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by guitarist Jeff Varga.
Tickets are $30 per person. A cash bar will be available. Visit www.westlakelevy.com for information.
Proceeds from the Taste of Westlake will help fund the campaign efforts for the schools’ upcoming May operating levy.
The winners of the karaoke contest at Ironwood Cafe in Westlake have been announced. Singers have been competing weekly, with the final two rounds of the contest taking place in March. Ironwood customers served as judges in the competition. The first-place winner is Christina Kennedy of Bay Village. She turned down the top prize of a trip to Nashville in favor of two 32-GB iPad minis. The second-place winner was Maria Robinson, who also won an iPad mini. “The karaoke contest was a very big success and we will probably do it again next year,” Chef Joe Dubbs, Ironwood manager, said. “People really enjoyed it.”
Spice of Life Catering, operated out of Spice Kitchen and Bar at 5800 Detroit Ave., has announced its 2013 Plated Landscape Dinner schedule.
These dinners are a true farm-to-table dining experience. Think of refreshing cocktails on a hot, summer day, white linens flowing in the breeze, a five-course meal paired with wine and live music playing in the distance as the sun sets. This year, a touch of adventure is being added. Guests may have to harvest and forage for their meal before they sit at the table.
The season’s first Plated Landscape Dinner will take place at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens Learning Garden, University Circle, at 6 p.m. on Aug. 8. New Creation Farm in Chardon will be the venue for dinner at 6 p.m. on Aug. 16 and at 4 p.m. on Aug. 17. Muddy Fork Farm in Wooster will host at 6 p.m. on Aug. 23 and 4 p.m. on Aug. 24. Ohio City Farm will provide a spectacular setting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 29. Squire Valleevue Farm in Hunting Valley is on the schedule for 6 p.m. Sept. 5, followed by Killbuck Valley Mushroom Farm in Burbank at 4 p.m. on Sept. 21.
