Time capsule to be interred Monday

A time capsule with memorabilia of Fairview Park life from the past half century will be interred in a wall in the lobby of City Hall at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The public is invited to attend the ceremony.

The project has been the work of Mike Green, the city’s retired traffic engineer and a current auxiliary police officer. Green has been collecting items, such as photos and news articles, for the project for nearly a year.

“I’ve got a lot of everything,” he said. “The longer I worked on it, the more ideas I came up with.”

Among the items is a science project containing tree leaves preserved in wax paper turned in by Green himself when he was a fourth-grader at Garnett Elementary School in 1964. Green also donated his third-grade report card from 1963, an item that is outdated even today as Fairview Park City Schools recently moved to an online report card system.

While the time capsule, actually a fire safety box, is nearly full now, anyone with an item he or she thinks really needs to be in the box can call Green at 440-865-7715.

The time capsule will come under the control of the Fairview Park Historical Society. The capsule will be opened in 2062.
