St. Brendan student named Cavaliers All-Star Kid
St. Brendan seventh-grader Michael FitzGerald has been named the Cleveland Cavaliers “All-Star Kid” for the month of March. All-Star Kids recognizes Northeast Ohio students in grades 6-8 who are setting a positive example for their peers, and is sponsored by Cuyahoga Community College. Representatives from the Cavaliers, including mascot Moondog, came to St. Brendan School March 5 to surprise FitzGerald with his award. As an All-Star Kid, he received four tickets to a Cavaliers game and four passes to the Court Club, and will be recognized on court prior to the game. He and his class will also receive a pizza party, and the entire class received tickets to the Cavs game.
Michael was nominated for this award by St. Brendan physical education teacher Shannon Morrison. In her nomination, Morrison cited, among other factors, the way FitzGerald consistently puts others before himself.
“He always has a positive attitude and offers to help out his teachers and peers every day without being asked,” Morrison said. “He has learned how to balance community activities and athletics with his school work and achieve honors in them all.”
FitzGerald is active in numerous school clubs and community groups, and is on the school track and cross country team and the West Shore YMCA swim team. He has received first academic honors every semester at St. Brendan School, the school’s Christian Kindness award and a Presidential Physical Fitness award.
