The Westlake Recreation Department announces its fall sports programs
Westlake Recreation is currently registering boys and girls in grades 1-6 for the Youth Basketball League. This program is open to any child who lives in Westlake, goes to school in the city or is a current member of the Westlake Recreation Center. The programs are designed to instruct youngsters in the fundamentals of the game of basketball. Volunteer coaches are needed for all divisions. The registration deadline is Nov. 2. Shawn Hood’s Player/Parent Clinic, for grades K-2, will be held Saturday and will give you a way to spend time with your child and also improve their basketball skills. Learn what you can work on with your child to help improve their shooting, dribbling, ball handling and much more. Fees: $10 for members and $20 for nonmembers.
Hoopin’ It Up, for boys and girls grades K-6, will be held Sundays, Oct. 14 to Nov. 4 (no class Oct. 7). Getting ready for your season? Just want to learn more about the game? Either way, these preseason workouts will help you develop the skills to take your game to the next level. Each session will focus on the fundamentals of the game, building as the weeks go along to prepare players for game competition. Ball handling, passing, shooting footwork and defense will be the primary skills taught by coaches Jeff and Brianne Huber. Each player will be given drills to work on at the conclusion of the workouts so that their improvement will continue. Grades K-3 are from 12-12:45 p.m. and grades 4-6 are from 12:45-1:30 p.m. Fees: $75 for members and $85 for nonmembers. Cavaliers and Monsters host national anthem auditions
Warming up for the 2012-13 season, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Lake Erie Monsters are searching for hometown harmony to audition for an opportunity to stand center stage and have the honor of performing the national anthem in front of fans at Quicken Loans Arena. Interested candidates are invited to stop by “The Q” on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., where the Cavaliers and Monsters game presentation management teams will hold open auditions for vocalists and brass musicians who can hit all the right notes. Doors open at 9 a.m. and all audition applicants are encouraged to arrive early to The Q’s arcade entrance for registration and check-in.Candidates who are registered before noon will be guaranteed an audition. Performers who are under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Rocky River City Schools is seeking high school varsity softball head and assistant coaches, head boys and girls freshman basketball coaches, a head middle school wrestling coach and assistant varsity boys and girls lacrosse coaches.
