American Legion Post 738 is looking to recruit new members, and they’re inviting veterans to join their members for free burgers and hot dogs during the Browns game Sunday afternoon.
The membership drive takes place at the post’s headquarters at 19311 Lorain Road in Fairview Park beginning at 12:30 p.m. In addition to the game, which will be shown on three TV sets at the post, a representative of the Cuyahoga County Veterans Service Commission will be on hand to provide information about veterans’ benefits offered by his office or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Post 738 is very involved in the community, said member John Flynn, who is among those involved with the membership drive. While many area residents have seen post members march in parades and post the colors at high school footballs games, the organization is involved in many more activities, Flynn said.
“Just a few of these include awarding college scholarships, visiting and presenting programs for Veterans in nursing homes, providing final honors to member Veterans at the funeral home, hosting a children’s Christmas party for veterans children and helping provide Christmas to a needy family in the area,” Flynn said.
Flynn notes that the American Legion is open to both male and female veterans, as well as spouses of veterans who belong to the Auxiliary or the Sons of the American Legion.
