West Side Market gala includes top chefs from across the country

The date for the West Side Market’s centennial celebration is fast approaching.

Festivities kick off on Sept. 21, when Cleveland hosts the three-day, eighth annual International Public Markets Conference. The conference will highlight Cleveland’s local food community and the city’s commitment to sustainability. Everyone is invited to attend the family street festival and parade on Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. More than 30,000 people are expected to fill the street in front of the market, to hear live entertainment and sample delicacies from Ohio City restaurants, food trucks and artisan vendors. The West Side Market will be open for the very first time on a Sunday in its history. Costumes for the parade are being created by the Cleveland Museum of Art Parade the Circle workshop.

The lineup of chefs participating in the Centennial Gala fundraiser, to take place at the market on Nov. 3 from 6 to 11 p.m., has just been announced. The event will be co-chaired by Cleveland chefs Michael Symon and Jonathan Sawyer.

Participating chefs are April Bloomfield of The Spotted Pig in New York City; Andrew Carmellini and Karen DeMasco of Locanda Verde in New York City; Britt-Marie Culey of Coquette Patisserie, Cleveland; Chris Hodgson of Hodge’s, Cleveland; Paul Kahan of Blackbird and The Publican in Chicago; Jeff Michaud and Marc Vetri from Osteria in Philadelphia; Eric Williams of Momocho, Cleveland; Paul Minnillo of Flour, Cleveland; Rocco Whalen, Fahrenheit, Cleveland; and Andrew Zimmern, host of “Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern” on the Travel Channel.

A limited number of tickets are available for sale in advance at the West Side Market’s WSM100 Shop site. The $250 per person ticket price includes valet parking, VIP reception, tastings of the chefs’ signature dishes, live music, an open bar and commemorative 22-ounce bottle of Butcher’s Brew from Great Lakes Brewing Co.

The chefs will meet at the West Side Market on Nov. 2, the market’s actual 100th birthday, to purchase the ingredients used in the dishes they are making for the gala.Visit or for more details.
