No matter the weather, bring your sunglasses to Crocker Park Sunday night for the Cleveland Pops concert.
Organizers of Liberty Fest, Crocker Park’s annual Independence Day festival, hope to set a new Guinness Book of World Records benchmark for the number of people wearing sunglasses at night. The unusual fashion statement was made popular by Canadian singer Corey Hart, who wrote a 1984 pop hit entitled “Sunglasses at Night.”
A fireworks show will follow the Cleveland Pops concert, which begins at 8:30 p.m.
During a patriotic military tribute ceremony that begins at 7 p.m., wounded veteran Josh Sommers, of Ashland, will be presented with a specialized wheelchair. The 25-year-old Army corporal was critically injured by a roadside bomb two years ago while serving in Afghanistan. The explosion left him with a traumatic brain injury, resulting in a significant loss of hearing and vision and partial paralysis.
At 4:30 p.m., Jersey Band, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band, will perform at the Liberty Fest stage, located between Brio Tuscan Grille and Barnes & Noble.
