Since the fee was instituted in April 2010 in the midst of a budget crisis, Republic Services, the city’s trash collection contractor, billed residents quarterly. Beginning in 2013, the $10 fee will appear on homeowners’ property tax bill.
For the 22nd year, eighth-graders at the school organized a Civil War ball as part of their study of the 19th century conflict that divided America. At the Fort Lee Burneson Blue and Grey Ball, boys dressed as Union or Confederate soldiers, while girls dressed as Northern ladies or proper Southern belles Friday evening in the school’s gymnasium. They danced the waltz and the Virginia reel in front of proud parents.
