The Cleveland Gladiators won their 2012 Arena Football League home opener with a 49-39 victory over the Kansas City Command, in front of 6,573 fans at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday night. Cleveland improves to 1-1 while the Command drops to 0-2 on the young season.

The 2011 East Division champion Gladiators were a force to be reconned with at home in the 2011 season, going 7-2, but they need to improve on the 3-6 record they had on the road last season. They will be playing this season for the chance to make the playoffs for the second year in a row, third time in the last four years.

New owner Dan Gilbert (who also owns the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA, the Canton Charge of the NBA-D League and the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL) likes putting a winner on the field…maybe he can put an offer in on the team next door at the “Prog” and the team over  in Berea.
