Olmsted Falls wrestling

 Mission ACCOMPLISHED at Bowling Green, in the 20 Team Dual Meet Tournament. With clutch performances all tournament long, the squad finished off a 10-0 weekend on Sunday with key wins over 3-State Ranked teams.  Archbold (Div. III), Wauseon Division II, and Oregon Clay (Division I)

“This tournament is an amazing two days of wrestling,” said Bulldogs head coach Bill McGrain. “The kids showed amazing heart, and we showed the will to win on Sunday, doing whatever it took to get over our opponents.  I am a very proud Head Wrestling Coach of the Olmsted Falls Boys after that performance.” 

 This accomplishment was a total team effort with literally everyone who made the trip contributing to the title.  The boys move to 16-0 on the season and now hold titles at Bowling Green, and Findlay.  Everyone involved with this program, Coaches, Parents, Fans, Supporters, and Alumni are very proud of our teams effort this past weekend.  Now we look forward to making the next step forward.

Wrestlers going undefeated at Findlay were: Chase DuPratt, (Chase had the clinching win in the Championship Match versus Wauseon), Kyle Kokitka, Nick Sommer, and Scott Linville. The rest of the team: David Lance, Danny Cuellar, Nick Asadorian, L.J. Yurick, Mike Hansinger, Alex Bevilacqua, Scott Ahern, Brian Slater, Clay Bolton, Travis Devericks, Rich Rader, Aaron Bridge, and Jordan Lee.

Hope College

Bay Village native and Hope College (Holland, Mich.) junior Megan Altieri was named the school’s women’s soccer team MVP of 2011. Altieri was also named 2012 captain-elect.


FAIRVIEW HIGH SCHOOL is looking for a pole vault coach for the 2012 track and field season. This is a paid position.  Responsibilities will include teaching pole vault technique to high school boys and girls while also working with middle school vaulters two times a week, running the pole vault event at high school and middle school meets and assisting with other track-related duties on the team. Applicants must have a CPR certification, attend a sports medicine class, attend the OHSAA “Coaching Class” and attend a pole vault certification class.

Magnificat Basketball

Cavs High School Hoops Showcase: The Magnificat High School varsity and junior varsity basketball teams will be playing Beaumont High School at Quicken Loans Arena in the Cavs High School Hoops Showcase on Friday, Dec. 23. The JV will play a shortened game beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the varsity will play at 6 p.m. Tickets for the Cavs High School Hoops Showcase are $16 and include admission to all games that day, as well as a voucher for a future Cavs game valid through the 2012-13 regular season (seats subject to availability for a mutually agreed upon date). Westlake High School girls soccer

Westlake’s Charlotte Tate has been named to the Adidas All-Regional team. Ohio is part of Region 4 in the United States. Region 4 is made up of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and West Virginia. The All-Regional team is comprised of the top 67 players from these states, with all schools included (no divisions). Tate has already been named 1st Team Division I All-Ohio and is a three-time All-SWC. She also carries a 4.9 overall GPA.


Westlake native named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month

Mercyhurst College (Erie, Pa.) freshman and Westlake native Daniel Bahntge has been named the Atlantic Hockey Conference rookie of the month for November. Bahntge had eight points (two goals, six assists) in eight games during the month of November, as the Lakers went 4-3-1 overall. The freshman had at least one point in six of the eight games, including two multiple-point games against Connecticut and against Bentley, where he had a goal and an assist in each of those games. With his eight-point month, Bahntge is now tied for the team lead in scoring with 10 points (three goals, seven assists). Bahntge scored his first-ever game-winning goal (which was also his first-ever powerplay goal) in a 2-1 win over Bentley on Nov. 19. He also assisted on the game-tying goal in the win over the Falcons. During the month, Bahntge took 24 shots and had a +4 plus/minus rating.



Olmsted Falls native Jurcak breaks CWRU 55m hurdle record

Competing in the season-opening Case Early Bird Pentathlon on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10-11, Case Western Reserve University senior Matthew Jurcak (Olmsted Falls High School) set a school record in the 55-meter hurdle competition. He stopped the clock with a time of 7.53 seconds. Rounding up to the 60-meter hurdle mark for the NCAA Division III indoor qualifying standard, his mark would be 8.11 seconds – the fastest time in the country in the meets that have taken place during the early portion of the season.


North Olmsted Hockey Club’s 2011 Holiday Clinic

The North Olmsted Hockey Club will be holding its annual Holiday Hockey Clinic for Mites and Squirts on Dec. 26, 27 and 29 at the North Olmsted Recreation Center Studio Rink. Ice times will be 9:45 a.m. for Mighty Mites and Mites, and 10:45 a.m. for Squirts. There will be professionally trained and experienced high school and college coaches conducting the clinic.
