North Olmsted High School to host wheelchair basketball games

Kyle Masterson, wheelchair basketball player and senior at North Olmsted High School, will be playing in his home high school gymnasium as the Achievement Centers for Children’s Junior Wheelchair Cavaliers Basketball team takes on the Junior Wheelchair Sterling Heights (Detroit) Challengers in a double-header on Dec. 18. Game one will be tipping off at 10 a.m., with game two set to start between 11:30-noon. Playing at his own high school gymnasium makes this a special game for Kyle since his team travels to play teams from Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. For Kyle, who will be graduating in June, this will be his last chance to play for his local supporters. For those that come out to cheer Kyle and his teammates on, they will see extraordinary athletes playing with unrivaled passion, strength and courage. Tickets are $3, with children under the age of 10 free.  Proceeds from ticket and concession sales will help defer the costs of tournament fees and travel expenses for the team.

The Achievement Centers’ Junior Wheelchair Cavaliers Basketball team, with generous support from the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities, became the first such junior team in the state of Ohio in 2010.

Burning River Roller Girls

Season 6 will usher in a brand new era for the Burning River Roller Girls, Cleveland’s premier roller derby league. This season will include our traditional five home team bouts, in which the Hard Knockers, Cleveland Steamers, Rolling Pin-Ups and Hellbombers battle for the Hazard Cup. But also, for the first time ever, the league will host two travel team events at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland!

Our travel teams, the Burning River All-Stars and the HazMat Crew, are the best of the best of the Burning River Roller Girls, and never before have they been able to challenge their rivals at this venue. These bouts are part of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) rankings for our All-Stars and could advance our skaters into regional, or even national, competition.

“The Burning River Roller Girls are very excited to be hosting two home travel team bouts this year,” said Kelli Pilch-Habel (aka Death Proof), president of the Burning River Roller Girls. “Fans will not want to miss the action of high-level roller derby that these teams bring to the table, and it’s a great opportunity to watch other leagues in action.”

You’re invited to witness the fastest growing sport in the country – for an amazing price. While other teams have been on strike, the athletes of the Burning River Roller girls have been training hard to give our fans the exciting sporting experience they deserve.

All events are double-headers, so you get double the derby action for one low price! Plus when you buy a season pass, it’s like getting three games for free, compared to day-of admission!
