That evening at the Community Services Center, an invitation-only “pioneer dinner” recognized community members who volunteered for bicentennial events. The meal, in memory of the community’ settlers, consisted of ham and bean soup, johnny cake and ginger bread.
The service, which delivers a cold lunch and hot meal to homebound persons, currently costs recipients $7 per day. But the organization is planning to raise the fee to $8 in January due to rising costs.
