The Magnificat golf team edged out Strongsville by 12 strokes to take top honors in the Division I girls sectional golf tournament held at Sweetbriar Golf Course on Oct 4.

Magnificat had a total score of 329 for the win. Strongsville took second place with a score of 341.

Sophomore Ali Nageotte shot a round of 77 (third lowest overall) for the Blue Streaks.

“It was such a challenge today with the standing water,” Nageotte said. “Every shot you were kicking up doormats as divots. I had to stay through the ball with my swing and kept plugging along.”

The other scorers for Magnificat were Jillian Hollis (80), Cara Kelley and Julia Gentner (each with 86).

“We’re happy with the results,” said Magnificat head coach Katy Kahler. “The conditions of the course were very wet. I think they (the team) would all like lower scores. We shot a 316 here for our tournament back in August, so today was partially the conditions.
We’re definitely happy to move on to Districts.”

Avon finished in third place with a score of 358 and Eagles’ junior Kaitlin Neumann won medalist honors with her round of 75.

North Olmsted finished ninth in the tournament, but Nicole Gentile will represent the Eagles in the district tournament as an individual with her round of 92.

“I’m just really excited that I had the chance to play with all of these girls,” Gentile said. “I didn’t think I would make it (to districts) with that high of a score, but I’m glad that I did and I’m excited to see what districts has in store for us.”
