HOSPITAL NOTES: What do St. John Medical Center and Mayor Dennis Clough have in common?

They both have been important parts of Westlake for three decades.

In his remarks Sunday afternoon during a groundbreaking ceremony for the hospital’s expansion, Clough noted he became involved in city politics in his seat on City Council at the same time the hospital was built.

Clough, whose daughter was born at St. John 30 years ago, said it’s evident the hospital’s staff cares about its patients. The hospital is a vital part of Westlake, he said.

“This community would not be the great community it is without St. John Medical Center,” the mayor said.

MR. PRESIDENT: Mayor Dennis Clough was elected president of the Mayors Association of Ohio at the organization’s annual conference in Lancaster, Ohio, last week. The purpose of the organization, an association of the Ohio Municipal League, is the improvement of municipal government.

READY TO RACE: North Coast Challenge, the annual 5-mile run and 2-mile walk that benefits area charities, will take place Sept. 3 at Crocker Park. The run and walk start at 8 a.m., the kids’ fun run at 9:30 a.m.

The race, originally called Celebrate Westlake, had been held at St. John Medical Center. However, the pending construction work at the hospital necessitated a change of location.
