There weren’t too many surprises throughout the Westshore area at Friday night’s high school games.
Here’s a look at the scores and their implications:
Avon Lake 13, North Olmsted 7.
A Mike Shoemaker touchdown run early in the fourth quarter cut the Shoreman led to six. But the visitors forced a fumble and picked off a pass to keep their winning streak over the Eagles alive.
North Olmsted’s last win over the Shoremen? 1993….
Avon Lake moved to 4-1 and 2-0 in the SWC, while the Eagles fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2.
Brecksville stayed in a tie for first place with a 35-14 thumping of Berea, and Olmsted Falls stayed in the race at 1-1 with a 40-6 mauling of Midpark.
West Shore Conference
Avon 34, North Ridgeville 8.
Avon remained unbeaten at 5-0 by going to North Ridgeville and taking out the Rangers. The state-ranked Eagles led 27-0 at halftime and never looked back.
Bay 10, Midview 0.
A big homecoming win for the Rockets, who milked an Alec Petro field goal for three quarters until they put tin the end zone in the fourth. After an 0-3 start, Bay is now 2-0 in the WSC and tied with Avon for first place.
Rocky River 54, Firelands 20.
This one had to feel good for the Pirates, who won their second game of the season and evened their WSC mark at 1-1.
Fairview 13, Vermilion 0.
A nice road win for head coach Dave Latkovic and his Warriors, who move to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the WSC.
Patriot Athletic Conference.
Wellington 28, Lutheran West 21.
Ouch!!! The Dukes won their first game of the year at the expense of the Longhorns, who fell to 1-4 overall. Wellington scored the game-winner in the fourth quarter.
